FAQs – Answers to Internet Security Questions

Q: How can I best protect my computer from viruses?

A: With care and consideration for all its elements of course! We offer a variety of ways to do this through antivirus software depending on your system. Do you have you a PC or a laptop? Are you business or home-oriented? Do you play games or download a lot of files? Our software deters and destroys any threats to the safety of your computer, keeping your guard up and worries down.

Q: Can I have both antivirus protection, as well as, anti-spyware protection?

A: You sure can, but it is important to remember not to overload your antivirus system with too many overlapping programmes. If you are particularly worried about spyware then an anti-spyware programme is a great deterrent for sneaky little virtual creatures. Otherwise a basic antivirus system provides more than adequate amounts of protection.

Q: Is uninstalling really necessary when I upgrade my antivirus software?

A: Rebooting and reviving your system is essential for any update, be it an antivirus programme or any other type of software, however reinstalling is not a required action. Upgrading is fairly straightforward unless your version of the software is two or three versions older than the upgrade. In this case uninstall and install, and remember to reboot in between these steps.

Q: Can I have more than one antivirus programme on my PC at the same time?

A: Certainly! Multiple layers of protection for your system means less risk, however beware running more than one at a time as they can overlap and therefore work less efficiently.

Q: What is the difference between a virus and spyware?

A: Viruses and spyware are very similar as they both aim to destroy or copy the content on your computer, however a virus can reproduce and spyware cannot. Also a virus has more control of directing its path through a computer to harm data within it, whereas spyware is usually taken up by the host someway.

Q: Are Trojan Horses viruses or spyware?

A: Trojan Horses are malware, so similar to spyware. They usually come up as a programme promoting an enhanced feature or system. Sometimes they even disguise themselves as antivirus programmes! They only work if the user accepts them, thus gaining access to your system. They cannot duplicate themselves like viruses and worms.
